Because they so closely resemble their non-electronic counterparts, you may have some problems breaking out an E cig in public. There are several methods to handle this and I’ll outline what’s worked for me here. The most important thing however, is to continue to be polite and cordial no matter what. Your behavior may set the precedent for everyone else who smokes electronic cigarettes at a particular establishment.

The first thing I recommend doing is to never ask permission. It’s always easier to ask for forgivness later. One of my favorite videos from the UK on Youtube features Nej, and he spends his time going into bars where they don’t allow smoking, only to see how many drags he can take before they kick him out. The next tip I have depends on the brand of electronic cigarette that you smoke. If you smoke something like the White Cloud or the ESmoke, you may have a problem since they have natural flame colors on the end of their cigarettes. However, if you smoke a V2 Cigs or a Blu Cigs, you won’t draw as much attention to yourself. If you haven’t bought an E Cigarette yet and plan on smoking it a lot in public, I’d heartily recommend looking at one that doesn’t look like it’s on fire at the end. The V2 Cigs are particularly good at this.

Finally, the most important thing you can do for people is to show them it’s not a cigarette. Generally, the best way to do this is to pretend to put out the cigarette on your hand. This shocks people into realizing it’s clearly not lit because it’s not real.
